An Apple A Day and An Āsana Each Week

As part of my yoga practice and training, I have committed to focusing my studies on one āsana each week for at least one year. So, 52 weeks from now, if you are sharing this journey with me, we will have focused our attention on 52 āsanas; and, hopefully this focused study will help facilitate our journey through the koshas[1] and help us find the integration of body, mind, and spirit on and off the mat.

If you are new to the practice of yoga, please remember:
  • These blog entries represent each āsana in a nutshell and should not substitute for a qualified, living, breathing teacher.
  • Yoga should never hurt. If it hurts, stop immediately and seek help, guidance, and instruction from an experienced teacher.
  • Feel free to share your comments and insights. We all begin somewhere and often from many different places.
  • If you have any physical issues, you should contact your medical doctor for their advice about your practice of yoga.

If you are a colleague-in-training or an experienced teacher or practitioner:

  • Feel free to share your own thoughts, guidance, and insights with comments.
When you are ready….

[1] The journey through the koshas can be said to be the journey of yoga. Koshas are the five dimensions of personality that make up “the self.” For a explanation of the koshas, see Yoga – Mastering the Basics, by Sandra Anderson and Rolf Sovik, Psy.D., pp. 4-6 (Himalayan Institute Press, Honesdale, Pennsylvania, 2000). http://www.himalayaninstitute.org/
